on counting sheep and fleeting time

July 21st, 2010

First of all, it does not work. At all. And it’s not because I am a perfectionist, and demand a fairly well articulated appearance. Or because I am a seeker of truth, and try to engage them in a frank conversation – which kept the total of sheep at a steady 2. But because the entire exercise is so deeply existential in nature, and, hence, cannot be solved.  To sleep, perchance to dream, escape from reality, anticipation of non-being – actually more like wasting being time on presuming non-being – and all at expense of very lovely, fluffy critters. And they are lovely if you get to talk to them for any significant length of time.

That brings us to the second of all, which I need to make short due to the lack of time, and which can be summed up as –  our experience with time is all our fault. We beat, waste, and throw it away. Some even go as far as to deny its existence. Truth of the matter is —  time is helpful. Things change, and time keeps track; people change, and time heals.  But change is the one and only lesson, it’s just not as evident when you are counting sheep.

But to the point, today’s, July 21, 2010 Puff’n’sip is on! Tonight is Brown LQ Puff’n’sip. What the..?!! – you ask. Read on! – I answer.

Brown LQ night will include:

-a flight of selected bourbons

-a flight of selected rum

-a flight of selected scotches

Selection would change with time (we’ll work on constantly improving those), but should provide you with an excellent gateway to the delightful world of brown liquor.  NOTE: Brown LQ night is in NO way is aiming at  limiting your choices. Drink whatever you want. Really.

But come and join us @

5:33 PM @ Cigar Bar & Grill, 850 Montgomery (@ Jackson)

Lots of love,

Big Red.

on kindness and tender moments

June 30th, 2010

So, this one, unlike anything else that comes out of Puff’n’sip’s updates,  is supposed to be easy to follow – concise, direct, and intelligible.  And, as you all know, Puff’n’sip strives to turn badness to goodness and in that make the future possible and possibly bright.  And it’s not a by-product, but a results of the sincere intent. And it always pleases me to reflect on how true we stay the course. And with that –

Big thanks to the Prom Crawl Committee and all crawl participants for raising $200 last week in support of the Princess Project. Quote: “Just $25 sends a girl to prom!” So that’s eight pretty happy girls right here! Well done!

On proper ways of smelling flowers…

June 2nd, 2010

Sometimes you just don’t have time for that.  You know you should. You’ve been advised so. You even slow down and reach,  when you see an especially appealing little number. But you don’t stop. You have the perspective in front of you. The lineup of street lamps and traffic signs urges and  directs you – get there! Because that’s where you need to be – a single point where left and right becomes center, just there barely behind the horizon. You know if you press hard you’ll be there in no time. But it is round, and hence goes on forever. And that means no time for the smelling of  flowers. And there lies the comfort of the picnic tablecloth. Steady, conveniently alternating  parallels, with graspable dimensions, promise of fresh fruit and wine, and infinite proximity to flowers, birds, butterflies, and puffy clouds. And somewhere near horizon a faint trace of settling dust – yet another wagon, rushing off in search of perspective…

 Today’s, June 2, 2010 Puff’n'sip will settle up around

5:27 PM @ Wine Merchant, Ferry Building

and strolling off by

7:13 PM  to  Cigar Bar & Grill, 850 Montgomery (@ Jackson)

Lots of love,

Big Red.

I wonder, more often…

May 19th, 2010

than not, about what drives people like you and I to poetry? Do we find pace and rhythm attractive and comforting, like “hello, hello, hello, how low (repeat 3 times..)”, or ambiguous images and invocations, like “come dowsed in mud, soaked in bleach”, stimulating and entertaining? At the end it’s all just words…

And the word is  - today’s may 19, 2010 Puff’n’sip is on. We well commence @

 5:11 PM @ Harlot,  46 Minna (@ Shaw between 1st and 2nd)

and venture @

7:01 PM to Cigar Bar and Grill, 850 Montgomery (@ Jackson)

Lotsa love,

Big Red.

killing me softly…

May 12th, 2010

there are some things you just know. Call it intuition, archetype, a gut feel (very ironic description in this era of stomach flu’s), or just lucky foresight, but it’s there. Just sitting there, available to you as Knowledge, deep and shiny in all its might. But the truth is that we spend so much of our time proving or simply neglecting it anyhow. Google it  if you must, but between sleep and doubt we are halfway done with the lifespan allotted. And there is time where we act with an ecliptic disregard for knowledge, which often has long lasting affects and can really mess with one’s identity. All in all it shows that we waste  a lot of time disregarding that teeny inner voice,we ought to trust. At the end – you do prove yourself right, one or twelve steps later, and reaffirm the righteous path.

What all this about? Here, case point: “The strongest medical evidence exists for the link between moderate drinking and a reduced risk of heart disease.. Men [I am sure they meant it in ‘human beings’ sense - BR] who consumed alcohol between three and seven days a week had fewer heart attacks than men who drank once a week.”

Your response – “I knew that!” – is absolutely correct and is right to the point of this observation. Speaking of ‘to the point’,

Today’s, May 12, 2010 Puff’n’sip is on. We kick off precisely @

5:02 PM @ Chaya Brasserie, 132 Embarcadero (@ Howard)

and march on to our hearts’ health @

7:09 PM to  Cigar Bar & Grill, 850 Montgomery (@ Jackson)

as things evolve and flourish… and why not?

April 21st, 2010

I was thinking about spring a lot lately. You know, bunnies, blooms, and bbq’s kind of thing.  It’s awesome, that state of springing that happens to the world around us. It’s uplifting and inspiring, and, if you believe in nurture over nature, the outcomes are so delightfully unpredictable. Who knows, maybe that’s a money tree growing in the crack. Or a whipping willow. Or whatever else you like.

And then it rained again. And I forgot. But then I remembered that I am late again… – To business!

Today’s, April21, 2010 Puff’n’sip is on! We’ll start without hesitation at specifically
