On Monday, December 17, there will be a happy hour taking place at The Imperial Room at 5:00pm. You may ask yourself, “Monday? Why Monday?”

Here are five reasons:

1. Monday gets its name from the Moon, which is cooler than the Sun, and boring Sunday.
2. Prince wrote “Manic Monday” for The Bangles because Prince is too cool to sing about Monday’s bad rap.
3. Monday is the first day of the week for many cultures. Monday is #1.
4. Wilco has a song titled Monday in which someone is trying to get out of FLA, probably to get to MN, even in December.
5. Garfield hates Mondays, but nobody likes Garfield.

Minneapolis chapter successfully attained its $50 donation goal to Second Harvest. A few bundles of beans and rice made its way to our last outing at Solera, but it was a frigid and valiant effort of the group to compound those consumables and make for a worthy contribution.

For you those of you unaware, when the temperature reaches -17 degrees, the heating bills rise. The bills put an extra monetary strain of those in need which results in winter being one of the neediest time for food.

Good on you- Minneapolis! We may be frozen, but our hearts are warm.

Second Harvest Heartland is the region’s largest hunger relief organization with a mission to fight hunger through community partnerships. The food bank solicits, warehouses and distributes large food donations to its 800 member agency programs in a 59-county region of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Second Harvest Heartland also operates a prepared-food rescue program. Additionally, it provides direct service to seniors and families through its supplemental nutrition programs. Second Harvest Heartland advocates on behalf of hunger relief in Minnesota and nationally through its affiliation with America’s Second Harvest.

Just as the new fallen snow has masked our beaten paths, the big orange MNDOT trucks speed past pelting Minneapolis’ main traffic arteries with those magical melting granules…one can not overlook the magic and essence of salt.

Its on our roadways. It has powdered our cars.
It seasons our food.
It makes our water potable. It makes our cocktail drinkable.
It keeps us from falling on our asssssss 1/25/07 comes to a prime, we call you out. Salute your MNDOT salt truck and tax money to good use. Bring a non-perishable food item or 10 for the local food shelf. And don’t drink the water.
