It’s a much more common yet complex dilemma than it might appear at first. I’ll leave it up to you to come up with a convincing example, and let’s just go with – I am right – on this one. But besides the obvious belly button issue, the one I am concern with is a matter of inspiration. Do you reach in? Reach out? And where does it go when it’s not here? I can imagine it being a communal property, similar to the ZipCar model, but a lot less reliable, no insurance, and you buy your own gas. That would explain why there isn’t enough for all of us. But even so, could one farm and pickle it away for the rainy day when fresh stuff is not as available. And would a plastic bag with a label on it – with, potentially, a strict warning or an explicit threat –be enough for it to survive through lunch?.. I wonder sometimes, if I were to sit down under the tree — assuming the type of a tree makes a difference – could I come up with a better packaging for light bulbs or learn the meaning of all suffering as orange? What I am tryig to say is that, I don’t have it. But luckily, Puff’n'sip is on!

Today’s, September 1, 2010 Puff’n'sip will venture @

5:11 PM to Sapphire, 475 Sacramento (@ Battery)

I say pretty darn good. Better than darn, actually. And frankly, in these fragile and uncertain times, where crisis is pumped up by the hysterical and questionably informed media, and emotions fuel both sides of the argument, and even winning a lottery is no guarantee to freedom, and… Well, it really does not take much. A slice of fresh orange with your Pork Chops and eggs sunny side up? Perfect! Or getting a “I know you got it!” from a lady with the lovliest of smiles? Or the full moon that winks at you with its permanently bruised eye, an obvious reminder of days long gone?… Provided the lady is a muni driver was talking about my missing bus pass, and the Moon prefers to call it ‘a bunny’ and avoids talking about the past, there are still so many different ways the grass is greener where I am at. Especially on a day like today – Puff’n’sip day! And it’s on –

Today’s, August 25, 2010 Puff’n’sip will revel @

4:58 PM @ Palomino, 345 Spear (but on Embarcadero @ Folsom, really)

Does watching grass grow really counts as poetry? I don’t meant the phrase itself, but the act of observing something that continues with its natural course, oblivious and often defiant of the external acts being imposed on it, for a long long time… Is it a skill? An special sense of punctuation? And is it really of a lesser value if seen on the Discovery channel? I say no. I say, the mere fact of acknowledging the blade of grass taking the trip into unknown - and especially in HD, and even if you had to take the kitchen/bathroom break, or the whole process was sped up for you by someone else to start and finish between commercials – that fact makes you a poet. There is nothing, I say, nothing that’s too deep for you. So shed your doubts, and go rhyme some. Flip over to the Discovery and embrace the poet in you.

But.. it does not make you the most interesting he/she of the world, however. The guy who shot the grass gets that title. Similarly, you can muse as long as you want about Puff’n’sip emails, but you got to show up to live it. And live it we shall!

Today’s, August 18, 2010 Puff’n’sip is on!

How many people still know the meaning of the phrase? Really know it – you know?.. Deeply rooted in the innate human sentimentality the phrase used to mean “stop, pick or lean to or bend over the flower, smell it, and proceed to the next step”. Nowadays, I wonder how often people actually notice the flower, let alone follow all the necessary steps. We always talk about things taken for granted, but more and more often I notice how things granted for taking are being left behind. You’d be surprised with all the good stuff people skip on - crescent moons and morning dew, first cups of coffee and the rhythmic busttle of garbage trucks, a run-away pack of baloons and child’s laughter…

“How!” – you ask – “how could that be?” Well, the never ceasing international debate on sentimentality seems to split roughly into two camps. The first insisting that sentimentality is on its way out, giving in to economical pressures and time demands imposed by the information saturated society. They optimistically remark that it might preserve itself as a high-end hobby and might even persist in some genetic pool, albeit deformed and unnecessary much like our pinkies. The others simply assert that sentimentally has ever been a clever ploy to detract peasant and proletarian minds from their economic reality and essential aspect of the class struggle. Either way, it’s pretty limited outlook for the flower – either a locked up rarity in entertainment of rich oddballs, or nutritious supplement to a proletarian dinner…

Not to throw you off the subject, but do you remember when Puff’n’sip messages were clear and straight to the point? Right? So to business – today’s August 11, 2010 Puff’n’sip is on!

We will start promptly @

I was thinking. Not that I get to do that often, but this time it felt important, so I gave in. As a species, we are either really brave or really gullible. Really. Where do we get the confidence in tomorrow, strong enough to have a 5-10-20 year plans? How do we know that the 31BX will be there on time in the morning, that our lattes will be frothy and hot, that the North Pole will be in the North, and the South Pole will be wherever it’s supposed to be? A simple combination of digits could change all that. Kinda messes with your mind, doesn’t it? Don’t marinate on it for too long, because it truly is dangerous. Plus, our opposable thumbs and ingenuity provides us with incredible set of tools in form of self-help books, Evite’s, and Hallmark ® holidays to ride the tidal wave of anxiety to a successful 5 year plan. And don’t forget the Old Faithful and Puff’n’sip!

So set it aside, because today’s August 4, 2010, is on!

We’ll start probablly @

5:11 PM @ 83 Proof, 83 First St. (@ Mission)

First of all, it does not work. At all. And it’s not because I am a perfectionist, and demand a fairly well articulated appearance. Or because I am a seeker of truth, and try to engage them in a frank conversation – which kept the total of sheep at a steady 2. But because the entire exercise is so deeply existential in nature, and, hence, cannot be solved. To sleep, perchance to dream, escape from reality, anticipation of non-being – actually more like wasting being time on presuming non-being – and all at expense of very lovely, fluffy critters. And they are lovely if you get to talk to them for any significant length of time.

That brings us to the second of all, which I need to make short due to the lack of time, and which can be summed up as – our experience with time is all our fault. We beat, waste, and throw it away. Some even go as far as to deny its existence. Truth of the matter is — time is helpful. Things change, and time keeps track; people change, and time heals. But change is the one and only lesson, it’s just not as evident when you are counting sheep.

But to the point, today’s, July 21, 2010 Puff’n’sip is on! Tonight is Brown LQ Puff’n’sip. What the..?!! – you ask. Read on! – I answer.

Brown LQ night will include:

-a flight of selected bourbons

-a flight of selected rum

-a flight of selected scotches

Selection would change with time (we’ll work on constantly improving those), but should provide you with an excellent gateway to the delightful world of brown liquor. NOTE: Brown LQ night is in NO way is aiming at limiting your choices. Drink whatever you want. Really.

But come and join us @

5:33 PM @ Cigar Bar & Grill, 850 Montgomery (@ Jackson)

Lots of love,
