On proper ways of smelling flowers…

Sometimes you just don’t have time for that.  You know you should. You’ve been advised so. You even slow down and reach,  when you see an especially appealing little number. But you don’t stop. You have the perspective in front of you. The lineup of street lamps and traffic signs urges and  directs you – get there! Because that’s where you need to be – a single point where left and right becomes center, just there barely behind the horizon. You know if you press hard you’ll be there in no time. But it is round, and hence goes on forever. And that means no time for the smelling of  flowers. And there lies the comfort of the picnic tablecloth. Steady, conveniently alternating  parallels, with graspable dimensions, promise of fresh fruit and wine, and infinite proximity to flowers, birds, butterflies, and puffy clouds. And somewhere near horizon a faint trace of settling dust – yet another wagon, rushing off in search of perspective…
